10:26 pm - MySpace, Facebook and Cover Charge
|
|
For the many people that kept asking, "When is Mr. Winky going to have a MySpace page? Well, our new MySpace page is up and running. It seems Mr. Winky was living in the past with only having a band website on the internet. I'm learning that every band not only has a band website they also have a MySpace page for the band. Who knew?We will still use our Mr. Winky Band website as our main page and we still want our friends to visit the website. We are only using the Mr. Winky MySpace page to post the band's schedule and band photos. The MySpace photo page is easier to upload photos plus it allows us and our friends to view and make comments about the photos that they are viewing. The MySpace page has only been up since August 31st, so give us a little time to jazz the sight up. Another new place that I am using to promote the band is Facebook.com. I am able to post events and photos on Facebook. I have also started a Mr. Winky Fan Club on Facebook, which now has 30+ members. I know it's not alot, but it's a start. When I first found Facebook.com I thought it was just for kids, well I guess I was wrong. I've been in contact with people in just about every age group. What will the internet come up with next? The last subject I want to talk about is cover charge. I wish we could do something about it but it is out of our hands. The bar owners/management controls how much to charge at the door. At least the amount that our Winky friends have to pay at the door is around $3.00 and maybe sometimes $5.00. I seen some places charge as much as $10.00 to $12.00 to get in the door. Well, I guess bars have been charging a cover charge since the first bar with live music opened it's doors back in the stone age. Thanks and hope to see you soon.......

11:13 pm - 35W Bridge Benefit 9/29
|
Imagine leaving from a long day of the daily grind at work with the uplifting anticipation of picking your young children up from daycare and heading home for a comforting dinner with your family. It’s something we all can identify with and unfortunately one of life’s simple pleasures many of us take for granted. Now again, imagine breathing a sigh of relief to be leaving work to go home and see your family, when your ambition is violently cut short by the bridge you trust and drive over twice a day, collapsing beneath you without notice. Can you fathom recognizing a bridge in shambles, painted across every television, and feel your heart drop when you realize your husband or wife, your daughter or son is not home from work yet? Each person had their own dreams and aspirations, their own story, and their own loved ones who are now left in the wake with grief, immensely missing those who they never had the chance to say good-bye to. These innocent victims were our neighbors, our co-workers, our friends and family. This bridge was our bond. On Saturday, September 29th, Mr. Winky will be performing at a benefit in honor of the tragic bridge collapse victims. The benefit will be held at Tom Reid’s Hockey City Pub. Tom Reid's is located at 258 West Seventh Street in Saint Paul. Right now, it looks like we will be playing from about 3:00 until around 6:00 PM. There will be another band performing after us called Jistoray. I will keep everybody updated with more information about this benefit as I receive it. If anyone would like to donate any items for the silent auction, please feel free to contact me or one of the following people; Amy @ Amyv921@hotmail.com (651) 278-4187

The collapse of the I-35W bridge spanning the Mississippi River brought a shocking reminder of the fragility of life and how an ordinary, daily event can turn into tragedy and heartbreak. This disaster, however, also illuminates the generous human impulse to want to help those who have suffered loss. The Minnesota Helps-Bridge Disaster Fund™ has been created in response to that outpouring of community concern.
The Minnesota Helps -- Bridge Disaster Fund™ is a collaboration of local funders to facilitate local contributions to disaster relief efforts. The purpose of the fund is to collect contributions and distribute them effectively to help the victims, rescuers, and families affected by the bridge collapse.
Contributions to the fund will be pooled and distributed to where they are most needed -- immediately and in the coming months. Grants will be distributed to organizations assisting those affected by the bridge collapse. Needs addressed by the fund might include costs of medical treatment, mental health counseling, and recovery.
No administrative fees will be collected by the foundations for this service -- 100% of all donations will be redistributed to provide financial support where it is most urgently needed. Donations to this fund are 100% tax deductible. We cannot accept in-kind donations.
To contribute by mail: Minnesota Helps - Bridge Disaster Fund c/o The Minneapolis Foundation 800 IDS Center, 80 South Eighth Street, Minneapolis, MN 55402
Funding Partners The Minnesota Helps -- Bridge Disaster Fund™ is a collaboration among local foundations and charitable agencies.
